What is a good red sipping wine? I want to try something middle of the road, not too dry or too sweet.?

I have a hard time ordering drinks because everything tastes sweet to me. I'm more of a margarita drinker so keep that in mind. I don't want anything too dry tonight though. Any suggestions. Let me say this, I really like Vouvray. Is there anything red that might be semi comparable?
