What are good wineries to visit in Amador County?!

Question:

What are good wineries to visit in Amador County?

I'm going Wine Tasting for the Big Crush Harvest Festival in October. I know for sure I'll stopping by Montevina & Soban, but are there any others you'd recommend? I'm a Barbera & Zin man for the record. Don't care too much for White's.

Thanks in advance.

Answers:

It is a most beautful area, hilly and dotted with little wooden towns that look like they've come right out of a cowboy film.

I'd go to

Deaver -- their ancient Zinfandel vineyards have a tremendous reputation and were used as single vineyard offerings by wineries like Sutter Home (don't laugh) when SH were specializing in great red Zins in the 70's http://www.deavervineyard.com/

Sutter Ridge -- you like big reds? As well as Zin they grow Sangiovese and Aglianico and they have the largest Pinotage vineyards in America. www.sutterridgewine.com

Story -- Friendly, lovely location. They make Zinfandel, Barbera and Sangiovese and they have 150 yo Mission vines growing like small trees next to the winery. Make a pretty good red Mission too. www.zin.com

Renwood -- You're a Zin man so you must know Renwood. Many rare single vineyard Zins to taste and buy there. www.renwood.com

Went to above, plus Montevina, last time I was in Amador
