Why are expiry dates on bottles always on the cap and not on the label on the bottle.?!

Question:

Why are expiry dates on bottles always on the cap and not on the label on the bottle.?

Answers:

Neither of those answers are correct - sorry!

I work in the food industry and it's all to do with how production lines are built.

Very often production lines produce drinks for more than one company, and these companies have labels that are all different designs.

The expiry is printed at point of production (not preprinted on the label) and it's easier just to print on the lid or neck of the bottle than it is to accurately print in a particular place on a label - especially if the designers keep moving the space for the expiry date to be printed!

So, if you print on the lid or neck you only need to configure your online printing once, regardless of the label or bottle shape.
