Watery Cider?!

Question:

Watery Cider?

ive been brewing my first batch of homemade cider, and ive just taken my first taste of the batch, it’s been about 2 months since I stored my bottles (2 in total, as that is the only method of storing my batch at the moment). ive found that they both taste watery or watered down. and that one has loads of sediment and the other, although cloudy (amber coloured) has no sediment what so ever. also they are foaming loads, which shakes the sediment and stops me from removing the cider, leaving the sediment behind, anything I can do?

Answers:

sounds like you need to pour the brew through filter paper in a funnel into another container. i used to brew cider myself and have a bit of knowledge about it. (although i`m not an expert) i used to use cider concentrate for mine, i`m not sure what you`re using. i would recommend cider concentrate (sold in tins) and some proper brewing equipment with filter paper. a homebrewers starter kit is probably best. that`s what i started with, it even came with instructions. i hav`nt brewed cider for a good few years now so i`m a little bit rusty on this subject. i bought my equipment from boots. (uk) i dont know if they still sell them after all this time. also check the amounts of water, yeast, cider concentrate, sugar etc. are correct. also clean and sterilise the equipment well with campden tablets beforehand, rinse well, add the contents, leave to brew for two weeks, then transfer from the equipment to bottles to mature for another two weeks. always use corks or plastic stoppers on the bottles, never screw caps as the pressure in the bottles can sometimes cause the bottles to burst. probably best to keep the cider warm during the brewing and at room temperature during maturing. good luck.
