Red wine suggestions for a non-wine drinker?!

Question:

Red wine suggestions for a non-wine drinker?

I would like some suggestions on a red wine that I might like. I usually enjoy champagne or beer. My beer of choice is Blue Moon or most Hefeweizens. The only red I have had that I remember liking was La Crema Pinot Noir.

I'm hoping that giving you my tastes helps you to suggest something. Just please remember when you suggest that I do not have a developed taste for wine. Thanks for helping me try new things!

Answers:

I didn't like red wines for a long time. I started with cabernet, since it's so popular, but didn't like the harsh tanic acid. I then tried merlot, which gained popularity in the 1990's for exactly the reason that I tried it - the lower acidity creates a more palatable profile for wine neophytes. I liked that, but really found that I enjoyed middle-of-the-road wines like shiraz and chianti. The mild acidity gives a brightness over merlots, but doesn't overwhelm. Try them with red meats and spicy foods.
