Approximately how many grains of sand in a pint? And how do I work this out?!

Question:

Approximately how many grains of sand in a pint? And how do I work this out?

Answers:

The easiest way would be to find a smaller measure, say half a fluid ounce, fill it with sand, count the sand grains in the half ounce glass, and multiply by (32 in this example) the number of small glasses in a pint.

This is how scientists count extremely large numbers (blood cell counts, etc.), except that they also calculate how much error there could be in their approximation.
