Should you keep red wine in the fridge?

I do with white wine, but I think red may be different? It will be drunk over a 3 hour period. (I should think! Me and 2 friends)

Not really, once you open it and it is going to be all drank, it is ok to leave out. It should be slightly chilled but not ice cold. Cover it of course so you dont drink any inebriated flies.

No, leave it on the counter to breathe.

For what you're talking about, generally no--you want the red to be able to decant a bit if you're planning on drinking it in one setting.

Storage of red wine, however, is much tricker.

Red wine is ideal at room temperature in the cellar (often called cellar temperature, which is about 55 degrees F). Most experts agree that full-bodied reds are best served at around 60 degrees F, which is typically cooler than room temperature.

If you stick them in the fridge, they'll drop below 40 degrees (most fridges are around 35), but if you leave them out they'll heat up to 70-80 and alcohol has an unpleasant bite at room temperature. Really there's no ideal solution for storing reds outside of commercial installments.

It's personal. My parents keep thier wine in the fridge, but my friend's parents don't. It really depends on your taste. For being over a 3 hr period, a fridge probably isn't needed, it's only if you would be keeping it for almost a week or so.

I'd recommend getting a wine fridge. You can get them at many supply stores, Sam's club, etc.

There are very few Red Wines that should be even slightly chilled - lighter, berry tasting ones sometimes, but the fuller bodied spicy or plummy ones need to be blood temprature.
