Why do people have salt and lemons with tequila?!

Question:

Why do people have salt and lemons with tequila?

Answers:
Because that is the time honored way to have your tequila. Tequila is taken in small glasses about as tall as your index finger called little horses or caballitos. You take some salt lick the indentation between your thumb and index finger, then sprinkle some salt there, it will stick there due to the moisture, that's how it's meant to be. Take your glass of tequila, take a generous sip and while still holding that sip in your mouth, lick the salt off your hand, take a wedge of lemon and squeeze the juice out with your teeth and lips. Swallow.
Congratulations, that's how you drink tequila. If you want you can have a little chaser of sangrita, a preparation of grapefruit juices and other ingredients, which is not sweet by the way. The best brand of sangrita is that of the widow, la viuda.

That is the reason. Tequila is not to be taken in cocktails or mixed with sweet juices or soft drinks, that would be like mixing whiskey or cognac with coke. Tequila is a distillate and meant to be enjoyed by itself.

Taste better.

I always have salt, LIME and tabasco. Its called a prarie fire. Because it goes down easily~

I suppose to make it go down smoother, I know it helps me out!

It makes it go down easier, I prefer lime though,

Takes the edge off the tequila, but usually it's a lime and salt.

because tequilla is nasty ya gotta have something with it

The salt lessens the "burn" of the tequila and the sour fruit balances and enhances the flavor. In Germany, they sometimes use cinnamon and orange slices!

cuts the taste of the nastiness.

Good tequila does not have a harsh taste. Jose Cuervo is one of the worst tequilas on the market. A good bottle of tequila should cost about double what cuervo costs. Cuervo is only good for margaritas. If you have to add something to a liquor, you really don't enjoy it.

Good Tequila doesn't need salt and lemon to mask the taste. Try Patron or Cabo Wabo Tequila. If you like have just a squeeze of lime or sip of Sprite after.

The salt is to take the "bite" or bitterness out of the tequila. The tradition of having a lime started when tequila was shipped on boats, it prevented scurvy.
