Question:

What's the difference between ale, lager, bitter, stout and beer??

Different terms but what's the difference between them all? And any other terms that are used out there?? Taste description/look/make up and examples of each would be great!

Answers:

ales are fermented for less time, and there are many many types of ale:

amber ale: a dark version of a pale ale. beers like this:rogue dead guy

Belgian style ales are similiar to German Hefes, have a cloudy appreance, and are generally light. these beers are also high gravs which means they are higher in alochol. Beers are Duvel, Hennepin, and Trois Pistoles

Pale Ales: Cooper in color, pretty hoppy and a popular style for micro breweries. Not exactly the easiest beer to drink, but once you get into them they are amazing. Beers: Sierra Nevada, Sweetwater 420, Flying Dog Doggy Style.

Ipa: The hoppiest of all beers, and the hardest beer to drink.
Beers: Dogfish Head 60 min IPA, Avery IPA

Stout: more malty then hoppy, perfect for a cold winter day.
There are many other stouts then just Guinness.

hopefully that helps
