I would start with a good light blend like Johnny Walker Red, Chivas Regal or Cutty Sark. Then, if you like it and want to move on, go for some mid-range single malts like Glenfeddich or Glenmorange. After that you should have developed your own tastes and palate and should be able to choose your own with help from a knowledgeable bar tender or liquor store clerk.
