Distilling and brewing own beer and liquor?!

Question:

Distilling and brewing own beer and liquor?

I want to try and distill my own whiskey and brew my own beer. Does anyone know any good websites or books that tells you how to do this and what you need to do it? Also, if you have either brewed beer or distilled whiskey, do you know how much it costs to get into doing this stuff?

Answers:
$120.00 That's all I paid for my first brew kit including the ingregients for my first batch. Just the ingredients are about $40.00 My advise, don't buy any beer kits that don't involve cooking the ingredients. The time and effort are well worth it.

As far as kits go, the ones at willamsbrewing.com are great. That's not what I have but I set mine up in the same way, a spigot on each bucket, AVOID SOMETHING CALLED A RACKING CANE IT'S A PAIN IN THE A** (That will make a lot more sense to you as you start brewing.) As for Malt, hops, and yeast, you can get that stuff any where and most sites are pretty competitive as far as pricing goes.

Check out the sites below....Good luck.

byo.com ( Brew Your Own) great site for Q&A

I brew my own beer......The "starter kit" and ingredients for my first batch set me back about $300.00....BUT I brew approx 5gallons of beer every other month and the cost of the ingredients is about $40.00...so it is well worth that first initial chunk of change.....Is NOTHING better than the home brew....and sooo many flavors to make...the possibilities are endless.....Good Luck and Happy Brewing!

I believe it is E.C. Kraus. They have brewery and wine (and liquor) making supplies. They are online.

The book "the joy of home brewing" is the bible of home brew. Enjoy!!

Starter kits are the best way to go for homebrewing basics, Northern brewer has everything you'll need.
Distilling is illegal unless you have a proper license, but thats all I'm gonna say.

$300.00 for a brewing kit, no way!! You got scammed.

For the basics on beer, you cannot beat http://howtobrew.com
Whiskey is simply beer without hops that's been distilled.
To learn how to do that, you cannot beat http://homedistiller.org

Have fun.
