Never had gin, what is the taste like?!

Question:

Never had gin, what is the taste like?

Whenever i walk by Bombay bottles it looks good, but never really had gin. Every other drink yes... gin... never. good stuff or no?

Answers:
Gin is a spirit flavoured with juniper berries. Distilled gin is made by redistilling white grain spirit which has been flavoured with juniper berries. Compound gin is made by flavouring neutral grain spirit with juniper berries without redistilling and can be considered a flavoured vodka.

The most common style of gin, typically used for mixed drinks, is London dry gin. London dry gin is made by taking a neutral grain spirit (usually produced in a column still) and redistilling after the botanicals are added. In addition to juniper, it is usually made with a small amount of citrus botanicals like lemon and bitter orange peel. Other botanicals that may be used include anise, angelica root, orris root, licorice root, cinnamon, coriander, and cassia bark.

Other types of distilled gin include jonge- and oude- Jenever or Genever (young and old Dutch gin), Plymouth gin, and Old Tom gin. Compound gin is gin where the juniper flavouring is added to the neutral spirit and there is no redistillation. Sloe gin is a common ready-sweetened form of gin that is traditionally made by infusing sloes (the fruit of the blackthorn) in gin. Similar infusions are possible with other fruits.

A well-made gin will be relatively dry compared to other spirits. Gin is often mixed in cocktails with sweeter ingredients like tonic water or vermouth to balance this dryness.

Hope this helps! =)

trees.

pine trees...LOL

The real gin is made from juniper berries...so it smells like a pine tree. The taste by itself is not that great, but mixed with sour mix in a 'tom collins' it tastes like lemonade.

bitter with an aftertaste like RC cola has.. it's horrible
according to my taste buds! But it's not bad mixed with 7 up
or Sprite.. those pops seem to destroy the bad taste don't
ask me why! Well now adays I don't drink alcohol.. doctors orders!

pine sol. mix it with sprite and its great

Next time your in a bar order a gin martini, You really have to judge for yourself, Gin isn't bad. But if you never had it don't buy a whole bottle.

Gin and vodka both start out exactly the same. Gin is distilled with juniper berries to give it flavor. Juniper berries come from a Juniper tree which is like a pine tree. That's why Gin tastes like a Christmas tree smells.

To me it tastes too herby, kind of like pine needles. I don't care for it. I'd prefer vodka, or rum or tequila, or wine....

I mix my gin with either orange juice or grapefruit juice. You have to be careful with it because it will sneak up on you quick. There's a saying "Gin will make you sin" so be careful!

All gin starts as a neutral spirit similiar to vodka, meaning that it has no added flavoring. In order to be called gin, it must be infused with juniper berries at a minimum. Each brand has it's own unique blend of aromatics. To say gin is "bad" is a ridiculous statement. It depends on your palette, but many people do not like gin. Usually a well mixed cocktail will be more palatable to people inexperienced with gin. A few examples would be the poplular "gin and tonic" and "french 75"

No, No, No! It tastes like rubbing alcohol.

Its got a real strong taste thats hard to mask. I don't really recommend it, I really love the drink but could never get comfortable with gin.

It tastes like absolute ****. But it does the job for getting you fucked

Gin, especially cheap gin, can sometimes taste like bug spray smells. That said, I actually like it, but you will enjoy it more if you're willing to buy the high-end stuff.

Do not go there unless you fancy having a technicouloured yawn down the toilet. It is diiiissssguuusttting! It is not good for you and burns your insides raw!
