How do I 'breathe' a scotch?!

Question:

How do I 'breathe' a scotch?

I bought a scotch and was told to let it 'breathe' for a week or two (Belvenie), I'm wondering if I should put the top back on or leave it off for two weeks? Should I drink any?

Answers: Breathing a Scotch is just like breathing a wine. Pour it a snifter or high ball glass and gently yet briskly twirl it around with inertia to so it spins in the glass. While its still spinning...sniff it strongly and take a taste... The aromas become much stronger when spinning because of alcohol's high evaporation rate and its air locked seal in the bottle. so it really opens it up you can almost taste it!... To breathe an entire bottle by pouring it to a decantur similar to red wine pour it in your nose There is little I can add to keatelite's answer other than it also works with beer. Remember you should always decant your adult beverages. This causes small amount of oxidation to the alcohol that help it breathe and release the flavors and scents. why breathe it when you could drink it
