Question:

HOW OLD do you have to be to buy alcohol in the UK/ London????

u just read a man got refuesed because he did not confirm that he was over 21!!!! i thought it was 18!!!

Answers: The legal age to buy alcohol is 18, but they'll check you if you look under 21. The story is a silly one - if it's the one I'm thinking of - because the man was in his 60s or 70s :o) 18
if you are lucky enough to look under 21 then yes they do ask for ID and if you don't have any they don't have to serve you It's 18, but a lot of places these days ask for ID if you look under 21. It's 18 but they have to ask you for ID if you look under 21.

Edit: Oh yeh and some pubs are over 21's only! it is 18 but if you look younger than 21 you have to prove your age 18 18 It depends on the shop. Some have made their own rule of over 21. Others have stuck with over 18. 18 but you will have no problem finding 12/13 year olds drinking on street corners.. It is 18 you have to be 18yrs old to buy alcohol in the UK! make sure you carry a form of ID with you! most shops now say if you look under 21 you have to show ID (some shops now say 30). Its because it can be hard to tell the difference between 16-21 year old. 18 but some places won't sell it if you look under 21 and others like tescos 30!!! 18,- but in some shops you get asked for id if you look under 21 Yeah it is 18, technically, but some places have said if you don't look 21 and don't have ID they won't serve you.

And some other places have said 'Over 21's only, at the managers discretion'
So it really depends where you are, what shop/pub/club you are in!! It is 18 but some stores make up their own rules. I thought it was 18 too. That might be some new law. the new gov's brought in a lot of daft laws..... A man can get shot in the army at 17 but it's too 'dangerous' for him to by booze. Stupid law. 18 but kids from as young as 8,9,10 can be seen on every street corner !!! 18 18, but you may have a drink with a meal if you are 16 or 17. its 18 but they have to see identification up to 25yrs it has to be passport ot photo id nothing else will do,they have really stepped up on this ,as they will loose their licenses to sell alcohol if they are caught out i really dont no about the law in uk/london..
but in australia its 18 :) The legal age is 18. However, a lot of retailers have set their own policies of seeking proof if the purchaser appears to be young, and most use a break-point of 21 in appearance. They are not obliged to sell to anyone. 18 unless it got changed and no one told me! Yes, you do have to be 18. However, it is always best to carry some ID as a lot of places will ask for this if they think you look under 21. The law says 18.

Some outlets won't sell if they think you are under 21 even if you may be over 18. Some pubs won't admit under 21s.

Interestingly, even if you can prove your age, the seller can refuse to serve you alcohol and does not need to give you a reason. You can also be barred from entry without reason.

These laws are in place to help licensees (pub landlords and shop managers) avoid drunken behaviour.

Depending on the landlord's policy and licence, persons under 18 may be able to enter a pub provided they are accompanied by an adult.

Mild alcoholic drinks such as Shandy or Perry may be served in moderation to somebody aged 16/17 in pubs and restaurants provided the purchase is made by an adult and is sanctioned by the licensee. 18...duh... You have to be 18 to buy alcohol. If you do not look 21, then you will be asked to provide ID to prove that you are at least 18. about 18 years can buy. 18, if you get asked for id, and cant provide it, you will be refused
i ask for id if you look under 25, im not copping a fine 18 is uk law for drinking age. But some places say they serve over 21s.
