Answers: There is really no hard and fast rule when it comes to how much or how often a person should or shouldn't drink. There is a difference between being an addict and just being somebody who enjoys a good drink every day. I'd say the best way to guage whether you have a problem or not is if alcohol interferes with your job or your social relationships, or if it's causing health problems and you keep on doing it. People who are true alcoholics have a real chemical addiction and can't stop themselves from drinking once they start. People who are merely habitual drunks only have a psychological dependency on booze due to other problems in their lives, but can quit or moderate themselves once they address whatever issues are causing them stress. And most drinkers might overindulge once in a while but can usually pace themselves and are quite comfortable with having a certain number of drinks and then stopping before they get sick, black out, or make a fool of themselves. If you feel like having 1 or 2 drinks every day to wind down after coming home from work, even if you're by yourself, that's probably fine. Having 4 drinks or more every day is probably unhealthy. How much is too much, though, really depends on the individual and his or her tolerance fo alcohol. If you're a hulking construction worker, then 4 drinks a day is probably nothing. If you're petite and have a delicate constitution, then 1 may be your limit. Only you can know for sure. You said that you do control the amount you drink by pacing yourself and stopping after a certain amount. I would say then that at the very least, you're not likely to be or become a hardcore alcoholic. But if you start increasing the amount you drink in order to deal with daily stress, then you need to cut back and find a healthier outlet. dif. drinks can be good, but i know where to draw the line. I only drink prob. once a month so i dont drink often! Everyone in AA finds it addictive, be careful or you will end up there as i did anything can become addictive. AA thinks it is addictive, but they take you and your ability to make a decision out of the equation. I don't believe that anymore, it is up to each individual to make choices good or bad. Oh ya... If I let myself I would have a drink every night. However I limit myself to 3 times a week. Persoanally, I love beer. I drink on the weekends, and I admit, I drink a lot of it. Now, whether that is considered addicted, then I guess I am. I don't want to drink all of the time, or I don't put brew on my Wheaties. I guess it is just all how you look at it. Peace!
