What is the REAL purpose of "swooshing" wine in ur mouth just prior to taking that first sip?!

Question:

What is the REAL purpose of "swooshing" wine in ur mouth just prior to taking that first sip?

- And is this suggested for both red and white wine? (and rosé for that matter)

Answers: You don't "swoosh" the wine in your mouth first. You swish the wine around in the glass, then you smell the wine and then you gently take a small sip and let it hit your palate so that you get the full effect of the wine and then you swallow it. Hope this helps!! It gets the full taste and smell of the wine in your smell&taste senses....Gives a fuller, stronger & purer taste of the wine...Yes, it is suggested for both red & white wines. (Seen & heard it done more with the red wines, though) From what I have heard, wine testers "swish" because they do not want to get drunk from tasting too much wine. As far as someone doing that just before the first sip, I'm not sure. Maybe the feel the look higher class...Haha. Who Knows? The REAL purpose is to coat your mouth so that you can smell the characteristics of the wine thru the openings to your sinuses in the roof of your mouth. It's true for all kinds of wine....including Rose`....if you drink that stuff. You're also supposed to suck air thru your mouth with the wine still in there...this also allows you to 'smell' thru your mouth. Try it...but try it with REAL wine. Have fun and enjoy!
