New bartender in need of help?!

Question:

New bartender in need of help?

I got hired as a bartender but ive never really done it before (haha kinda nervous). Does anyone know any good websites or anything for helping me learn drinks. The bar I work at is really laid back and if I dont know a drink they usually tell me how to make it but id like to be a little more professional.

Here are some websites that may help. All sorts of information regarding bar tending and drink mixing. Good luck and have fun

Not sure of any web sites unless you go through google. But the best thing to do (just to make extra on the tips) is make stronger drinks vs watered down. It'll guarantee you more business. Also try the book "Bartending for Dummies".

I'm a bartender too with no formal training. I work for an off premise bartending service and run into all kinds of situations. I like www.barnonedrinks.com. It not only gives you drink recipes but also tips and other info! Hope this helps!

Don't make the drinks stronger (like the 1st guy suggests). If you have never done the TIPS training it's a good idea. It could help protect you from a lawsuit if someone gets drunk on your watch and gets in an accident. It is required for my company that all bartenders go through it!

Get one or two bar tending books and bring them with you when you go to work that's what i did my first day.......try not to stress what i do now is drink 1 or 3 beers be for i go in and I'm stress free all night and a fue shots when I'm working too. bartending books will have like 1000 drinks in them and you will only make about 20-35 or even less....but every place makes different drinks so after you have been working for a week or so you should know most of them.......good luck

Go to a bookstore and pick up any of the drink books that they sell. Find one that fits you well and buy it. A good one will be laminated and have lists by drink name and type of alcohol.

Most bars have one type of client. Within a couple of days, you will be able to see what the main drinks made are. After making the same ten drinks a hundred times in a shift, you will know them like the back of your hand.

The best advice I can give you is to learn to pour properly and have as much fun as possible. If you make a mistake, do not let it bother you. If someone does not like the drink you made, ask them (if you have the time) how they like it. Making drinks is not that hard. A trained monkey can do it. The hard part is making sure that your customers are having a great time.

P.S. - Don't overpour. You do and management will notice.

Try Mr Bostons bartenders guide. That will give you most if not all the basics. But when in doubt ask the customer, most people would rather you ask than screw up their drink!!! Good luck!!! PS very important to know and memorize your speed rack!!! It's your best friend on a real busy night!!!!
