Is bartending a hard job?!

Question:

Is bartending a hard job?

Answers: yes, it is. there is a lot of manual labor involved (re-stocking, changing out kegs, moving cases of wine, soft drinks, loading the dishwasher, cleaning shelves, cutting garnishes, setting up & breaking down the bar, etc.). you also have to make drinks for the waiters, your own bar customers, the cocktail servers, take food orders, make sure your customers don't get drunk, deal with rude guests, etc. it requires the ability to multi-task at a very fast pace, with a smile on your face, while holding 5 separate conversations at a time ( with a manager, waiter, cocktailer, guest, and the barback). nerves of steel, and a good sense of humor are a must, but the money is great !!! 25 years in the restaurant business yup

you have to put up with all kinds of people

sad, angry, whatever Yes, you have to put up with a lot. When people drink, they usually aren't at their best. I quit after 4 days. Yes, in the sense that its very physically demanding and you have to remember alot. Develope routines when serving customers and occasionally deal with aggressive customers. I wouldn't know from experience but I would say it is a hard job. It's a lot to remember but if you find a job bar tending I'm sure your boss will be helpful at first. I would think that working in a restaurant or a country club would be a little easier than working in a bar when it comes to dealing with the customers. Bartending is like art...it has to be your passion. Anyone can serve drinks. It is the caring person who listens to the customers that makes a good bartender. But at the end of the day, you have to shake it off and laugh. And count your money!
