Alcohol-Do people really black out while drinking and how?
Okay, I want to know how its possible that people go through a whole night not remembering anything when their drunk. I've had times of my life (regretably) that i've drank to the point of alcohol poisening, yet I still remember the main details of a night. I have friends who can't remember whole nights and events, I was just wondering how this is possible in some people and not in others. Or, do people just use this as an excuse to do whatever they want while drunk and get away with it?
Answers: Some heavy drinkers black out, others do not. It's a matter of one's individual brain chemistry, and is certainly not universal among everyone. Having blackouts and memory lapses is considered a tell-tale sign of being clinically alcoholic, whereas a person who often drinks too much but doesn't lose control like that is more likely to just be a habitual drunk. It really happens! Sometimes by drinking way too much, or other times randoms can slip something in your drink, not necessairly to take advantage of you but just to watch you act like a fool and you will not remember ANYTHING from the night before. It happened to me in college and was VERY scary! Oh yeah. One time after taking 7 shots of Captian Morgan (Call me a wimp) I blacked out. It is sorta like falling asleep except you don't remember ever trying to fall asleep. Well after that happens what you do is entirely subconcious and a little unpredictable. I took another 6 shots and puked my guts up for hours. X.x Don't Drink. Yes you can black out. I only did this once when I was 18. I am lucky I was with people I trusted. I drank way too much alcohol and it reacted on my system like poison. I passed out cold. I can't remember much of the night but it taught me to drink and stay in control. Nope its a real deal, once you reach a certin alcohol point some brains just go on auto piliot and they remember nothing from that point on, all brains work differently. First off, I'm with you on this one. I've drank until I threw up, the room spinning for hours, but I have NEVER, EVER lost track of what I did or said. But I have known several people in my life that claim they have. I don't know how you possibly drink yourself that stupid without your body trying to "get rid" of the poison first. Part of me thinks it's a crock, a way to say and do whatever they want to do and then hide behind "I don't remember that". Then another part of me thinks that maybe certain people react different chemically speaking. Like maybe the alcohol does something to their blood sugar levels and they really do "blackout". I dunno, I guess I never will. But I can tell you that it really pisses me off. Like most people here I have experience it before. Sometime last year I was really down and went to a pub which I frequent regularly, ordered a bottle of Chivas and finished it in about 45 min ... from that point (the last few glasses) I cannot remember a thing except I found myself in my car (backseat) at the carpark of my apartment the next morning.
Events that went on during the night (the people later told me)
I ordered another bottle of Vodka and finish 1/3 of it.
I went to the toilet and slept there (hugging the toilet) for 2 hours
They carried me - 3 guys to my car and got the valet to send me home.
and ....
One of the singers in the pub (real cutie) give me a nice kiss (not sure how true this last one is)
So yes it does happen ... and if the singer were to have given me a kiss ... I would remember it for life :) i'm fairly certain it does happen. the not remembering is caused by the fact that alcohol in yoru system deprives you of REM sleep, and without REM its difficult to form memories. so its a good chance with a lot of alcohol in your system, that you will not remember things well. ( hey my biggest binge was 5 tequila sunrise, so i'm not in the same league as you mega drinking detox bound people LOL ) Alcohol is a depressant and suppresses higher brain functions. drink enough and you can impair your thinking to the point where you can black out and remember nothing i had the same question for a while.. all of my friends would claim that they didn't remember anything they did the night before.. and it was kind of hard to believe them considering that i was just as trashed and remembered everything that happened.. last year though i had alcohol poisoning.. and apparently i experienced blacking out.. all that i remember was going into the bathroom and sitting in front of the toilet.. then i remember i was shoving my finger in my throat trying to make myself throw up because i knew i would feel better.. but all of my friends were yelling at me to stop and saying that i had been throwing up for the past 2 hours and there was nothing left in me to throw up.. so yeah.. apparently i guess it's possibly to black out from drinking. Yeah...it's for real...I passed out once..it was about eight years ago on my husband's birthday...I threw him a party...afterwards him and I were playing a drinking game...last thing I remember we were laughing and getting into bed...We woke up several hours later naked on the living floor...He claims to remember walking in there but I don't...one month later we found out I was pregnant with our son...So if you're going to get that drunk...make sure it's with someone you trust and somewhere safe....
