What a good wine to have after dinner?
I looking for something sweet not bitter or sour have any suggestion must be good for the heart& kidney..
Answers: Sweet wines such as Port or Muscat are often served after dinner. These wines are not the best wines for your hearts and kidneys though.
Researchers at University of California at Davis have concluded that full-bodied dry red wines contain the highest levels of flavonoids and provide the greatest health benefits. The number one wine for supplying the most flavonoids is Cabernet Sauvignon with Petite Syrah and Pinot Noir also ranking highly. Sweeter wines and white wines have less flavonoids and are less beneficial.
Flavonoids from the skins and seeds of red grapes are the key to wine being good for you. These flavonoids lower your risk of coronary heart disease by reducing your LDL or bad cholesterol levels. At the same time these flavonoids actually increase your HDL or good cholesterol levels and decrease the likelihood of blood clotting.
Scientists believe that there may be other health benefits from red wine. A recent study discovered that an antioxidant in the skins of red grapes, called resveratrol, may inhibit the growth of tumors in some cancers. It’s possible that resveratrol can help treat Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s as well and new studies are on the way. Source(s):
http://www.cheers2wine.com Have some port. It's a fortified, sweet red wine "liquer". Great with hot tea or coffee on the side. Sherry's another choice, but I think you'll like the port better.
Presidential and Benjamin are decent brands, and in the $10-12 range. A german ice wine, they are extra sweet rieslings. I would suggest Mead (sometimes known as Honey-wine).....there's a reason it's been around for centuries....it's not only delicious but its good for you! Well in MODERATION!I would say a nice sweet and smooth port wine reds do have health benefits.
Or the italians in my family wouldnt be living so long!! As an alternative, if you want sweet, there are numerous fruit infused beers, and as I am sure you know beer is good for the heart, mind, and cholesterol levels.
For a sweet option, if you can get it in your area, there is Leinenkugel's Berry Weiss or Apple Spice. Muskat wine go with a dessert wine such as a reisling (a german wine), not anything real cheap bc that may be too sweet of a taste. im not sure how good it is for the heart and kidney but it has a great taste. A good cheap bottle is Paragina southern australia sparkling shiraz. Plus it has tannic acid which is very good for the heart as well as blood pressure Port is always an excellent choice for an after dinner wine. It pairs quite well with chocolate.
I would recommend Sandeman's Founder's Reserve. It's a ruby port, which means it's a bit sweeter than a tawny port. It has a good port flavor with just the right amount of sweetness.
