Beer question...this may sound stupid...?!

Question:

Beer question...this may sound stupid...?

When you pour a beer, why do you get less head when you tilt the glass? Again I know this sounds kind of stupid...so don't bother calling me stupid for asking like I know some people will.

Also I know how to pour a beer to not get head, that is not my question. Read my question again for those of you who do not seem to understand. Sorry if I am being rude but I have just found so many other rude and childish people on here it is hard to be nice and cheery. :-/

If you pour down the side, you get less agitation of the liquid, therefore less CO2 being released, and therefor less head.

As the bubble in the head start to diminish, you'll notice that the level of liquid in the glass starts to rise. One of the reason you want some head on a beer is that it releases some of the aromas in the beer which enhances the "nose" and makes the beer actually taste better. its magical ain't it!!! MORE BEER PLEASE! The best way to pour a glass of beer, is not down the side, but directly into the middle of the glass, make a really nice head. Try it! The foam/head is caused by the beer sloshing against the container...if you tilt the glass then it runs down the side and sloshes less. Less turbulence, so more of the bubbles stay in the liquid, I think. I think it might be because you are pouring the beer on the glass and not on top of more beer. I guess pouring the beer on beer is what makes the foam. I dunno...makes sense to me! :) Because you are NOT allowing the bubbles (carbonation) to escape with a gentle pour - the bottle is right beside the glass when you tilt it.

Put pouring it straight in causes the beer to hit the bottom of the glass after falling for a larger distance - and it loses more "air" that way. THAT is why you get a larger head when you pour poorly ;););) If you tilt the glass it pours to the side of the glass and causes less foam, but if you pour upright you are pouring into the bottom causing more foam to appear. Always tilt the glass The foam is caused by the beer sloshing against the container. if you tilt the glass then it runs down the side and sloshes less causing there to be less foam A home brew or European beer should be poured in the center, because they have less carbonation to start with and it is the only way to get a good head. It also gets air into the brew and animates the aromas. American beer is mostly crap and needs to be tilt poured. What you do is you put the head of the bottle against the glass so it doesn't slosh about and you don't get any foaming.
