Answers: It's called a Rice Wine but is not really it's 18%-25% alcohol. No it is not a beer either. It's very strong.
I like it mixed with Plum Wine 1/3 Sake to 2/3 Plum Wine : The drink is called a Banzai
Sake (Japanese: 酒; pronounced [sa.k?] Listen (help·info)) is a Japanese alcoholic beverage made from rice. In Japanese, the word sake may also loosely refer to other types of alcoholic beverage. The word nihonshu 日本酒 (literally, "Japan alcoholic beverage") is used to distinguish true sake from other beverages. In English, the word sake never refers to anything other than nihonshu. This article uses the word "sake" as it is used in English.

Sake is also commonly referred to in English as "rice wine", but the characterisation implied is not accurate. Wine is made from the single fermentation of plant juices. Sake is produced by multiple fermentation of rice, which is more similar to how beer is produced. Also, outside Japan there exist other beverages known as "rice wine" that are significantly different from nihonshu. Japanese rice wine It's like wine but made from fermented rice. The best way I've ever had it ... and it's like a dessert ... is to get Plum Sake. Warm the sake a bit (not boiling or too hot to drink, just WARM) ... take a hershey's kiss and put on your tongue ... drink the warm sake and hold in your mouth to help melt the chocolate a little. Oh my goodness ... it's fantastic!!! Since it is brewed from rice, technically, sake is a beer. It is japanese wild rice wine. It's supposed to be very easy to drink, one of those things you can sip, but I personally cannot stand it lol.
