A half keg or pony keg is called a quarter-barrel and has a volume of 7.75 US gallons

Keg is a term for the type of container, it is German I believe for Cask, it is a genaric term for a type of container, like barrel or picher. But that being said here is the things you have to know to determin how many gallons are in one. what size keg? full keg, half keg, pony keg? a full keg is 30 gallons, half is 15 gallons and poney is 7 1/2. but that can vary from manufactures of beer. these are Anheuser- Busch sizes. Normally you the individual cannot purchase (rent) a full keg by law, so when people say they are having a keg party, there having a 1/2 keg or pony keg part. full kegs are for clubs and bars, and those with liquor licenses.

Pony kegs have four gallons. Then, it goes to eight gallon. The most popular keg for parties and the like, are 16 gallon kegs. I used to buy two of these, every weekend to have enough brew for my party buddies. Of course, this was many years ago.

15.5 gal

15.5
