Answers: yes If theirs pain in a baby I would rather take him to the doctor instead of giving him alcohol. Many people used whiskey back in the day for teething babies. They actually rubbed it on their gums to numb them. There are people who still use those methods today. I don't know, that really doesn't sound very safe to me. I'm sure there are other ways besides using alcohol. No I don't think it's a good idea. alcohol is harsh on your liver and babies' bodies are so little.

If they are in pain beacause they are teething, give them an iced teether to chew on.

if they can't sleep, rub their backs or drive them around in the car until they fall asleep. When I was a baby and I was in pain the doctor told my mom to drink a half a glass of wine, and then breastfeed me. I turned out fine. I don't know anyone who puts it in the bottle but, I've known friends to rub burbon on their babies gums if they ran out of teething tabs. My mother used it on me (my parents don't even drink!), but supposedly it helps babies with their teething, so they'll put a couple drops in their bottle or will rub it on their gums.

I don't have a baby, so I can't really let you know if it works or whatever, but I guess I turned out ok lol. My good ol' German grandmothers and great-aunts used to swear by a few drops to relieve teething pain or for sleep. I'm not an advocate of it, but it worked back then. And look at European countries, kids get sips at a very young age. I think the US is getting too protective. It didn't hurt any of us back then. A little brandy or whiskey for a teething baby didn't ruin our health. It shouldn't be used to put a baby to sleep. Rock the child, to put him/her to sleep. Go for a car ride. Something like that.

For teething, it's okay to use a drop or two on the gums. It really does help make the gums less sore. A drop or two won't hurt the baby. An entire bottle of wine, rum or bourbon.... that's a different story. lol

When my children were teething, I would put a little bit of pure vanilla extract on their gums. There wasn't a lot of alcohol in it, but there was enough to help soothe their gums. Worked a LOT better than the orajel gum stuff.

And before you worry about little babies getting addicted, don't. A drop or two to help soothe sore gums won't make them addicted. It'll help take away the pain, and they'll sleep when they're not in pain. Child Abuse! As a child I was given warm whiskey mixed with honey, like a tablespoon to soothe a sore throat or cough. As a baby mom would rub small amounts of whiskey on the gums when teething. Its perfectly normal as long as your not force feeding the baby liquor!
