Can you "dye" a drink black?
I'm going to a Halloween Party and my husband and I started a tradition of bring a fun new "martini" style drink to family gatherings and parties! (We are CRAZY about martini's!) We'd really like an orange drink and a black drink. Any suggestions on the black? I've found lots of orange ones, but nothing that is black. Is there a safe way to make a drink black in appearance without altering the flavor?
Also, what type of alcohol would be tasty in hot apple cider?
Answers: Yes you can.
Wherever you can get cake decorating supplies (Michael's crafts for example) you can find black food coloring for icing. It's actually a super-concentrated blue-purple. You can add this to your drinks.
Also, for the same novelty purpose, there is an actual black vodka on the market: "Blavod"

pure blueberry and pure pomegranate juice with the vodka for a martini. I discovered this accidentally a few weeks ago when I was trying to make a purple martini! BTW this will be a fruity tasting martini.
For hot apple cider, you can use a little Irish Mist, some apple brandy, or a combo of both. Buy a box of food coloring. The box has the colors to mix to make differnt colors. If it's a large amount of liquid I'd recommend buying the boxes that have just one color and buy the colors needed (those little droppers don't hold much). Hope it turns out well :) Get some Blavod. It's a black vodka that you could use for just such a purpose.
