How damaging is alcohol?!

Question:

How damaging is alcohol?

If alcohol kills brain cells, but we only use 10% of our brains is it really that bad for you? My coworker Pete wants to know

Answers: This was an interesting question to me. I'll tell you why. I don't know about the brain, we don't really need to be losing brain cells, the damage is immesaurable. However, it affects other organs like the heart and liver, esp over long term use.My brother-in-law went into the hospital the other day for alcohol related myocardiopathy (an enlarged heart from too much alcohol). He did not think himself an alcoholic. He drank 5-7 beers/day during the week and then that didn't count what he drank when he went out and over the weekends. He held a job, never appeared drunk, and everyone thought he handled it well. Now he was told that his heart is like a 75 year old man's heart (he is 36) and that he is a candidate for a pacemaker and possibly a heart transplant. He has a wife and 2 children, ages 7 and 10. The doctors said that he may live 5 years if he does everything he is told to do, including totally giving up alcohol, not one more drop is what the doctor said! But there are no guarantees about how long he has left. The heart damage is irreversible! If that scares anyone who drinks alot of alcohol, it should! Now that you know how much it can affect you, you tell me, is it bad for you? It's more damaging to your liver, and kidneys. I believe the "10%" is actually a reference to how much of the brain is required for what we call concious thought.
The rest runs various other parts of the body. exercise kills brain cells...most activities do! I ask my doctor for sound advice. Hello:

STOP DRINKING ALCOHOL More than 2 drinks a day (4oz wine, 12oz beer, 1oz shot) is very damaging...but you will not know it for quite a few years and then whamooooo.... of course its bad for you!!! Alcohol not only damages your liver and kidneys, it damages your social life. It damages the relationships in your life! My son is 22 and an alcoholic and has been probably since he was about 12 years old! We never knew he was drinking until he was older and we sent him to rehab. It worked for a while, but then he came back to our town, got together with one of his friends, his friends STUPID mother gave him a beer. My son was 17 at the time. It's a sad thing to get messed up with. Kids that start drinking before the age of 15 have a much higher chance of becoming an alcoholic. Don't drink, it kills much more than you know! Silly girl, do u know that the other 10% is memory and other stuff. Think about a hammer. If u remove the handle, the metal part will remain, which is the one that usually does the job, but it is incomplete without the handle. That's how the brain is.

always think about the pros and cons.
