Lights on home brew?!

Question:

Lights on home brew?

I'm keeping my home brew at 28°C with 2 low wattage lamps. How does light affect the brewing process or the finished product ?

Answers:
The bulbs are just supplying a little heat

UV light is what you need to be concerned with - this will destroy a promising homebrew ...or any other brew for that matter.

Even though this application won't adversely effect your beer, is this the only heat source you can use? A low-temp warming pad works better, if you need additional heat.

Hope this helps!

Electric lightbulbs do not emit harmfull ??? what ever.
if your worried > > spray them with BBQ hi-temp black paint.

The light can possibly affect the flavor. The alpha acids from hops react with light...not just UV. This reaction is what causes the beer to "skunk"...also known as "lightstruck."

You're better off wrapping your fermenters in blankets to keep them insulated and shielded from light.
