Answers: Absinthe must be distilled. A lot of places will tell you that you can make it by soaking a variety of herbs in vodka, or adding their special extracts.

In the US, distillation at home is a federal no-no. Home distillation is legal in New Zealand, Greece, and a few other countries that slip my mind at the moment.

The process goes like this (in general):
-add wormwood, fennel, anise, and sometimes other herbs and spices to high strength alcohol (grape based spirit is preferred
-distill this mixture so that the essences are extracted from the herbs and all the extra nastiness is left behind in the still
-color with fresh lemon balm, hyssop, and roman wormwood (different kind than the first wormwood) for the nice green color and a little extra flavor complexity.
-filter, let settle for a couple months, bottle.

illegal if the revenuers don't catch cha'
