White Wine?!

Question:

White Wine?

I was given a old bottle of white wine yesterday and was wondering if it was ok to drink. It's a 1996 BV Sauvignon Blanc... I know older red wines are ok, but not too sure about the white wines. Any help would be greatly appriciated

Answers: Chances of it being enjoyable are slim to none and slim just left town. Very few SBs will stand this test of time and most fall in the dessert wine category.
Most likely its lost any semblance of fruit or any other interesting characters. Dry SBs just don't have the raw materials to hang on and improve in the bottle for that long. They are generally best young and fresh when they exhibit the trademark green, grassy and citrus flavors. BV is a mild version of this at best. SB was and is not their strong suit.
Pop it but I doubt it will be anything you'll want to consume. Source(s):
see profile Refrigerate, open and try it.. if it tastes moldy, or vinegary, throw it out... If the color is a darker yellow or cloudy, It turned.... Doubt it it's any good. Blanc's have a very short shelf life. Usually only a few years.

But pop that baby and if it's drinkable, then go for it, or dump it in the garden. Wine is great for the flowers!
