I like merlot and shiraz but i want to try something different. Any suggestions?

Yes, you should check out the Spanish wine section at your local grocery or wine/liquor store. Red Spanish wines, such as the Temperanilla variety, are full of flavor and generally cost much less than Italian or French wines.

There is a really delicious Syrah/Shiraz named Happy Penguin. It is inexpensive and super tasty!!
Pepperwood Pinot Noir. At Kroger for about 8 dollars a bottle.
If you want to try something a bit sweeter in red wines. Try Mogan David. It is sweet, delicious and about $4-$5 dollars a bottle. Really nice with poultry & pork.
Dancing Bull makes this amazing Red Zinfandel and I do not care for the pink Zinfandel's but do enjoy a Shiraz...it is AMAZING!
I bartend at an Italian restaurant and I also love red wine. I have a couple of suggestions: CORVO is a table red from Sicily at about $9.00, VILLA PUCCINI is a chianti at about $12.00, & STRACCAILLI a chianti at about $12.00. These are a couple of my cheaper favorites. Also RUFFINO chiant is another at about $10.00. These are all very good. Enjoy and if u can let me know how you like them!!!
I'm a Pinot Noir fan (and was 'way before the movie Sideways got everybody nutso about it). Just about any California Pinot except Talus is good (I've tried several dozen).
If you're looking for a decent everyday wine, there's an import from part of former Yugoslavia (don't know what part--Montenegro maybe?). The brand is Avia, and they make decent Pinot and also Merlot--now, not a match for the Californian varietals and their like, but not offensive and very even in quality. They retail here (Ohio) for normally 3.99 a bottle.

It is under $10 a bottle, fairly sweet, and doesn't have the dry, bitter wine taste that other wines have. It goes well with a meal or can be sipped alone by itself. Give it a try, even if you don't care for it it's only around $8 a bottle. We first had it at Olive Garden on Valentines' Day a year ago...
