Question:

Why are german red wines so hard to find in the us?

Answers:
It depends where you live. If, you check out a high end wine store or german specialty store, they would probably carry them. I don't have difficulty finding german red wine in California. :)

because they are made in germany! different countries!

Because this is the USA and not Germany.

But I'm glad to see that you like a German made product!!!

I don't really know but I love the German white wines.....Have you tried any of them?

I would try a specialty liquor store, or see if you can request a certain "brand." Iv'e found that in the past, certain stores are willing to buy special requests for you if they see that the extra not purchased by you could be sold fairly easily.

The reason why German reds are hard to find in the US is that Germany is more well known for their whites. So the supply of reds is limited and generally the more popular whites are the ones exported.

"Germany has nearly 100,000 hectares (240,000 acres) of vineyards. About 81 % of this area is planted in white grape varieties; only 19 % in red grape varieties. By contrast, the worldwide ratio of white to red wine cultivation is almost exactly the opposite."

That's a great question I have worked in a liquor store that sells fine wines and we never had a red German wine I know Weber is the most popular maker of German wines Sorry
