Chambord - blackberry, raspberry, or boysenberry?!
Chambord - blackberry, raspberry, or boysenberry?
Two friends bet, one saying it was blackberry liquor and the other saying raspberry. Chambord site says it's a black raspberry liquor. Wikipedia claims it's a combination of blackberry and raspberry, but the raspberry friend claims that a black raspberry is just a type of raspberry and there's no blackberry in it. Never hearing of a black raspberry, I claim that the combination of raspberry and blackberry made a new fruit which is called (at least by IHOP) a boysenberry, not a black raspberry. Now we're all confused.
What is used to flavor Chambord? What does it say on the box? Please help my friends settle their bet and help me to figure this out so I can get to sleep tonight!
Answers: it is in fact a black raspberry. Which is not the same thing as a black berry or a boysenberry. The website for Chambord under the history section says that it is a unique raspberry liquor. That is a blend of raspberry, blackberry, vanilla, citrus peel, honey and cognac.
There is such a thing as a black raspberry, not to be confused with a black berry. I have them growing in my backyard and the local nursery sells raspberry, black raspberry and black berry. Boysenberry is not a new fruit and entirely different. Source(s):

They do exist.
My dad grew both red and black raspberries.
Bert I actually think the flavor in Chambord isn't real any more. The most recent bottle I bought tasted more like flavored cough syrup than a real fruit liqueur. I remember tasting it many years ago and it had a jammy real-fruit flavor. I was always told it was a raspberry liquore I've always heard that it's a raspberry liquor. chambord is a liquor made of black raspberries. they are very dark. raspberries come in several hues (gold, red, purple, black).no combination, black raspberries exist. sweet dreams !!!
