Who likes tequila?!

Question:

Who likes tequila?

Answers: Many drink it, but unfortunately most do not really fully understand it or appreciate it.

That's because in the US, it's largely markketed to college kids as a way to get "crazy", which is largely missing the true nature of tequila.

Some are very "oaky" as they have been aged in oak barrels (often used Jack Daniel's barrels) so they pick up a woodys flavor.

Some are kind of fruity tasting. Some can be a bit peppery.

The aging has a lot to do with the taste, so try a few to see which style you like best, and then remember how the aging is labeled:

Blanco (because it's totally clear) - no aging
Reposado - minimally aged at least 2 months, but can be up to 1 year
Anejo - heavily aged, minimally 1 year but less than 3 years.

Some really expensive ones can even be aged longer than that, but you'll want to work your way up to those.

Also to get the correct tequila experience, don't drink anything that doesn't say 100% agave (like junk like regular Cuervo or Sauza). These are cheap poorly made tequilas designed to sell to college kids to get drunk. They are only 51% real tequila, and the rest are fillers like corn syrup and grain alcohol (and thus the hangover the next day is born).

Start with a shot of a decent but inexpensive tequila maybe with a lime, preferably no salt, and see what you think. Sip it though rather than shoot it, so you can really enjoy the flavor. If it's too strong that way, get it on the rocks.

Tequilas I would recommend:

Cazadores reposado
anything by Herradura or Don Julio
Corzo reposado (please note this is not Cuervo)
anything by Pura Sangre
anything by Dos Lunas i definantely do!!! I do! I like shots. I absolutly love it. I've had some of the best mexico has to offer and have even had pulque. me.. i like a shot.. hehehehe its not bad. i can live without it though. I'm rather fond of it myself... It depends on the type of tequila. There's:
* oro ("gold") – un-aged tequila which is "joven y abogado" (young and adulterated) which means that caramel, fructose, glycerin and wood flavoring can be added to resemble aged tequila
* blanco ("white") or plata ("silver") – un-aged white spirit
* reposado ("rested") – aged a minimum of two months, but less than a year in oak barrels
* a?ejo ("aged" or "vintage") – aged a minimum of one year, but less than 3 years in oak barrels
* extra a?ejo ("extra aged") or ultra aged– aged a minimum of three years in oak barrels. This category was established in March 2006.

Unfortunately outside Mexico the 2 most "infamous" brands are the colourless Cuervo and Sauza types which resemble jet-fuel. Mmmmm tequila joe! i now mw do me do I DO.

One tequila...
Two tequila...
Three tequila...
FLOOR!
