It's a fine Bottle of Barolo... that tastes a bit "corky" I wouldn't drink it but wonder if i should use it for cooking.....(i would never use a wine that comes in a box) It will be fine for cooking; any "corkiness" will not transfer to the sauce with its cooking.

Frankly, if it cannot be returned and I wish to drink it,
I just let a corky wine breathe a bit. No I think you will be fine. I only use corked wine for cooking and it's great. Don't use the bottled "cooking wine" you find in the supermarket. It has way too much salt and no wine flavor. As opposed to a box wine?

Of course! ew no....

its like one step away from vinegar.

Rule of thumb- If you wouldnt drink it, dont cook with it.

You will still taste it in your cooking. Cooking doesnt remove the "corked" taste. Throw it out, its not worth it, or try to find a method of removing the cork taint. Always use corked wine. The taste should ''transfer to the dish. That is why you don't use a cheaper wine. what other wine would you use besides corked....ewwwwh i hope aren't one of those box wine drinkers...that blasphemous. you will be fine with corked wine. i use it in spaghetti bolognaise and it still tastes great! Yes, it's fine to use corked wine in cooking. Yes corked wine is fine for cooking and no the cork will not part flavor unto the food. Now if you place the cork itself in the skillet with your food you may have a problem with not knowing how to cook. As long as the wine is something that you would drink, then it is ok to use. Never use a wine in cooking that you would not drink on its own. i agree with SMY corked wine is great.. as long as your using a bottle that costs more than 30 bucks.. then its a waste of decent drinking wine It depends on how you want your food to taste. If you want good food use good wine . If a wine is "corked" and you would not drink it yourself then do not cook with it. you will taste the corkiness and it will detract from the fine job you are trying to do by making the meal in the first place
