Alcohol and Celiacs?!

Question:

Alcohol and Celiacs?

I have recently found out that I am allergic to Wheat, Gluten, and Brewers yeast.....this comes in as a problem with alcohol. Does anyone know of any "beverages" that dont contain any of the above mentioned?

If its a choice between being very sick and not drinking, i will choose not to drink......but with any luck it wont come to that! hehe.... Thanks guys!

Answers: I've tried various things! I am a long time Celiac. Vodka works best for me.....I do dilute it with water though so it is not so strong. I mix it with Cranberry Juice and a squeeze of lime. Delish! I used to drink white wine and the bubbly, however, that created too much gas in my system. You can also try gluten free beer which now is in most liquor stores. However, that too in the end created too much gas in my stomach.

All the above-mentioned are gluten safe! So, you can continue to drink! Source(s):
I have a spastic colon in addition to being a Celiac. There are some other booze items you can try but I'm not into Bourbon. can u do potato? they have potato vodka- it's called Chopin Try Pulque, it comes from the Maguey plant, and it is nice and nutritious as well. i don't know!!!!!! Distilled liquors have no yeast so stick to hard liquors. Stay high end so you are assured that the ingredients are unadulterated. Potato vodkas, corn vodka. Tequila, should be ok. Not gin too many ingredients.

Stay healthy!! hey... i am gluten and wheat intolerant (not as bad as ceoliac) and I can drink vodka, bacardi (white spirits) and wine
i havent had a problem with any of these... i was advised to steer clear of beer (unless you get gluten free beer where you live) and also dark spirits There is this beer that i have heard of and i wish i could remember the name for you. But it is made especially for people who have celiac disease. I remember it because my aunt has that problem too. I head about it in a page a day calendar that talks about different microbreweries and their different selections. Do some research online. Also check out the Beer Lover's Rating Guide by Bob Klein and your celiac-safe beer might be in that. Good luck to you. All spirits are free of wheat, gluten, and yeast. You can't go wrong with spirits. Wine is also a safe bet...the yeast is separated and filtered out so it shouldn't be a concern. If you like beer, there is beer made from sorghum that contains no grain or gluten and is advertised as safe for celiacs.
