Answers: No the barrels are sealed shut. And if any bugs got in it, they would be very drunk bugs and high in protein! :) No the barrels are airtight not to mention alcohol would kill the bugs, I dont think they want it. No bugs
In most cases the liquid never sees the open air.
barrels have cork seals and air locks to stop air from entering the barrels...
In the cookers,, the liquid is contained in pipes and tanks NO Exposure
aging in the barrels again there are no bugs around
at the time of bottling the filtering and the filling machines remove any particulate matter. Not likely. Even if bugs where in there, it would be filtered before bottling.

Have you ever seen a worm in Mezcal? Its put in there on purpose and its no big deal.
