Why do they sometimes put worms in tequilla?!

Question:

Why do they sometimes put worms in tequilla?

i always wondered.

Answers: Worms are put in Mezcal, they are called maguey worms. Mezcal is a Mexican distilled spirit made from maguey plants and refers to all agave-based distilled liquors that are not tequila. Its fabrication and consumption are popularly associated with the Mexican State of Oaxaca, however, commercial and private production of mezcal is known over a wide area of central-south Mexico outside of tequila producing areas (Jalisco and Guanajuato states). The mezcal of Sonora is called bacanora in reference to the municipality where it is made; the mezcal of Chihuahua is called sotol in reference to the plant that is used there.

There are many different species of maguey plant, and each produces a different taste of mezcal. Tequila is a mezcal made from the blue agave plant in the town of Tequila and the surrounding region of Jalisco.

The worms have nothing to do with peyote. i wonder the same thing too, but i would never eat it... i mean, it is obviously sterile b/c of the alcohol but still... ppl hyperventilate or see things (like acid).... im sure it is a very bad trip, thats y i would never eat it. The urban legend is that the worm eats peyote, so if you eat the worm, you get high on the drug that peyote contains. It's a myth, apparently, possibly started to boost sales of tequila.

http://www.a1b2c3.com/drugs/alc07.htm... they don't put a worm in tequilla. The worm only goes in mezcal. Never worms in tequila. It's mezcal you're talking about.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/mezcal... That's an agave worm , If it dies right away the bottle is Proofed.
