Martinis and Cocktails are the same thing?!

Question:

Martinis and Cocktails are the same thing?

Answers:
All mixed drinks are cocktails, martinis are cocktails, their made with gin or vodka with a splash of dry vermouth. Oh, and a olive.

A martini is a cocktail. Cocktail is a general term referring to any alcoholic beverage other than beer and wine.

Martini as in Martini and Rossi (the brand that makes Martinis) is an aromatized or spiced desert wine. cocktails are generic mixtures of different alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks.

No, martinis are a type of cocktail.

Martinis are a type of cocktail. Cocktails refers to a mixed drink often contains alcohol. Martinis on the other hand is traditionally made with Gin and Vermouth. Nowadays martinis are also made with Vodka and other flavoring like bitters and liquor to extra taste. They are always served in a nice Martini glass.

All martinis are cocktails, but not all cocktails are martinis. In fact any mixed drink is a cocktail.

A classic martini is made with premium gin (I like Bombay Sapphire, or Plymouth Gin), a splash of white (also known as dry) vermouth. Pour this over ice, stir gently and strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with a twist of lemon or 1 olive.

For a Franklin martini, use two olives.
For a Dirty martini add a little of the brine from the olives to the drink.
For a gibson martini, substitute a pickled onion for the lemon or olive.
For a Bradford martini, have it like James Bond and shake it.
For a vodka martini, substitute vodka for gin.

For any other type of martini like an apple martini, or chocotini or anything else.... don't. These are drinks for people that don't like martinis but want to look like they do.
