Is the principal right?!

Question:

Is the principal right?

I drive cab where I live and I pick up Middle School kids (the same ones) and I like to stand outside of the cab and get some fresh air. He is always standing outside monitoring the kids when school is dismissed for the say. I usually wear a T-Shirt that adverrises an alcoholilc beverage (Pabst Blue Ribbion Beer) or advertises a tavern that I used to go to (now closed) and he don't like it when I wear the T-Shirts and he does tell me it is bad influence for the middle school kids, and he tells me it is a bad idea to wear such T-Shirts, I do not know if he is joking around or is if he is telling me the truth. But I do tell him it is just a shirt with an advertisement, and it is my favorite bar or beer, but is he right? Should I do what he tells me or just ignore him.

Answers:
Yeah man, I have to agree with the majority...Doing or displaying anything negatively amongst kids is a bad idea. I love beer, bars, and babes myself, but if a community employed person such as a principal comments on a beer shirt, better cool off and wear something more "appropriate". Because if you don't comply and persist, teachers and principals can make bad rumours and suggestions to higher ups, you dig??? Then you're really screwed...

I think you should ignore him. Practically everything is sponsored by an alcholic brand, you're definitely not the worst influence on them!!

he is trying to watch out for the kids wear another shirt before he complains on you

I think that maybe you shoul wear something else just to shut him up.

Hi Pauly,
I really think the Principle is right on this one. You have to remember that the Principle is responsible for our children while they are under his direction and while wearing these T-Shirts are quite harmless, to him its an infraction of his belief systems. I bet if you showed up with a nice polo shirt on he would be very complimentary to you and taking the higher road in this situation will prove to be impressive.

Sorry... I think the shirt is inappropriate in this situation. I doubt the principal was kidding. Why is it such a big deal? The way you describe it, it sounds like the principal was being pretty nice and suggesting you think about the kids and wear something else. You could possibly consider he's right. And it's about respect. He's an educator who should know what's right for those kids. Think about it.

Honestly I think he's a little uptight about the whole thing but he does have a bit of a point. Yeah I know, it sounds like I'm contradicting myself but really I'm not.

Problem is if you were walking down the street in front of the school with that t-shirt he really couldn't say much about it. If you were standing in front of the school, just hanging out then he could ask you to move along and maybe hang out somewhere else than in front of the school. But you're there specifically to pick up some kids that he's partially responsible for. And I'm sure he wouldn't want them coming to school with the same kind of t-shirts that you're wearing.

Ignore it...I mean, if you really care for the kids, then try not too,,but legally you can. Imagine all the things we could tell parents that come to pick up their kids at school..I have seen half naked ladies, people on drugs, bare footed, and with all kinds of advertisment picking up their kids....and there is nothing legally that we can do about it....If it is not against the law in public places (such as being totally naked) then yes, you can wear it.

You should dress appropriately for the clientele that you are driving around. Young school kids would rather a t-shirt with a rock band than one with alcohol.

it is not right to wear such shirts when dealing or working with children it is as you said advertisement so i ask you this........if someone went up to your child and showed them a poster about cigarettes and how good they taste how would you feel? it is telling these kids that its ok to drink and why not try this brand? as you said advertisement but children follow what we do so please for the love of everything good do not wear such shirts in the presence of children ty......would you wear a shirt advertising teletubies??
