Have you ever had a really well-made, satisfying Manhattan?!

Question:

Have you ever had a really well-made, satisfying Manhattan?

Where? How was it made and why did you enjoy it so much? It happens to be one of the most requested cocktails worldwide... does that surprise you, Skeezix?

Answers:
I agree with the above answer. I have never had one in a bar that is anywhere CLOSE to as good as I can make them.

My favorite whiskey for making Manhattans is Knob Creek bourbon (even though it's made in the hometown of that Yankee tyrant, Abraham Lincoln). Keep it in the freezer, so it'll be cold, and you don't need to use a shaker, which waters down the drink. Pour it into a chilled cocktail glass, add a splash of red vermouth and a drop or two of angostura. (Most bar Manhattans go WAY too heavy on the angostura.) Garnish with a marashino cherry and enjoy. Nothing like it on the face of the earth.

My husband loves them. he makes them at home and prefers his own to anyone else's.
