Its so people don't cheat when they are doing shots. You do a shot of vodka with all your mates, and if there is anything left in the shot glass you have to snort it. Keeps people honest.

Don't know about vodka, but at work (bar) I saw two guys snort tequila in one nostril, salt in the other and squeezed the lemon in their eyes!!! They said it was called a "tequila suicide" I don't think they got a buzz, just pain!!
