What is the point of a "dry" county?!

Question: I mean seriously I live in a so called "dry" county, but yet when I want liquor all I have to do is drive 10 miles to the next county where they have a package shop right on the county line. This seems kind of crazy because I mean obviously if someone wants something they are going to get it and they are just missing out on the taxes they could be collecting by allowing the sale of liquor in our county. Also, I live in Georgia where you can't buy any alcohol on sunday, and also in my county you can't buy beer or wine(which are allowed) between 12-6am on any day. People are stupid.

Yeah I don't drink, but people in my family do. And I HONESTLY dont understand WHY we are a dry county either. I guess they figure that nobody should be drinking on Sunday till 1pm, when most people I know buy their liquor on Saturday to hold them over till Sunday Afternoon. Or most will walk the three miles to the county line to buy their stuff. Crazy if you ask me!
I suppose the idea is to keep drunk driving to a minimum, however, this is reminescent of the prohibition days. Didn't work out then, either.
i dont understand it myself
it's a cities way of trying to cut down on drunk driving and other liqueur related accidents.something i think is funny........LYNCH BURG ,TN,where they make Jack Daniels is also a dry county.
It's due to religion, seriously. The Baptist were trying to stop the Military Post from selling beer, on Sunday, til the government told them where to go. In Tennessee, you can't buy liquor and beer in the same store. In CT, after 9 you can not purchase liquor or beer. What does it matter? Yet you can go to NY and buy it on a Sunday.. Crazy= Religion. Keep in mind who you vote for..
So the beer men can go to fewer stores and sell the same amount of beer! No Kidding!
Well here in Texas the majority of dry counties are in areas where baptists have a lot to say about the sale of booze. But if you think you got it bad... I live in Houston, more specifically in an area called the Heights. On one side of the street booze isn't allowed to be sold, yet cross the street and you can drink to your belly's content! Go figure huh?
where i'm from you can buy beer, wine, or liquor from 6am to 2am 365 days a year (that is if you can find a store open on holidays) i tripped out when i moved to a dry county but it was a military move and the dry county laws didn't apply to military property sales - so i guess it wasn't so bad.
Dude -- if this bothers you, just move!
Should we apply this reasoning to marijuana? to cocaine? to prostitution? to unorthodox medical practices? Your question just leads to more questions. Can we "make people behave" by passing laws against "bad" behavior? Should we even try?
