Wine suggestion?!

Question: I need to buy an extra nice bottle of red wine for a dear friend. He loves good California Zinfandels and Australian Shiraz. There are so many to choose from. Can anyone make a suggestion. My price range is up to $50

We live in northern California and one of the things we love to do is go to wineries. We live less than one hour from Napa valley. I have also been the Origin wine country and know some of these wines. Australia wines are good, but we have so much California in our cellar.

California Zinfandel you have a lot of choices. Here is a small list of stuff we know :

A.Rafanelli – They are in the Dry Creek and have been producing top quality Zinfandel for years. They are famous for their zin. Unfortunate, I have seen shop owners mark it up a lot. We can get them for $32.00. We order direct.

Elyse – Napa. They do a good job on zins.

Mauritson – In the Dry Creek Valley

Rosenblum - They do a lot of different zinfandels. You should be able to find these wines.

The top of the top would be a Bordeaux Saint Emilion Grand Cru classé - but of course if your bible is Zinfandel......
1999 Lafond Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc. Its $45.00 a bottle and you will make your friend very happy. It is made at the
Santa Barbara Winery.
Penfolds makes a good shiraz. It should be within your price limit.

Penfolds is an Australian winery.
D'Arenberg winery is an Australian winery that makes alot of good reds (mainly shiraz). They have several in the $20 - $50 range. I have enjoyed every wine that I have ever tasted by this winery. My favorite is a shiraz called "The Dead Arm". It usually runs around $70, which is more than you want to spend.
No need to spend all that get Wolf Blass Yellow Label.(Australian Cab Sauv, Merlot and they do a Green Label which i think is the Shiraz)
Trust me its FANTASTIC !
