Can someone recommend different assortments of red wines for me please?!

Question: Im only familiar with white wines and I just started to acquire a taste for reds. Now that I know I like it... I know nothing about them. Are there dry and sweet ones like whites? Or are they pretty much all the same. Stupid question I know. But please help me out and recommend some that I could try and exlpaine the differences between them. Please only list affordable ones though. : ) Thanks Guys!!

Here are a few wines that you will love and are in your price range.

Pinot Noir: La Crema, Estancia, Au Bon Climat.

Cabernet Sauvignon: Penfolds bin 407, Simi, Jordan, Joseph Phelps.

Merlot: Francis Ford Coppola, Frogs Leap, Stags' Leap.

Syrah: Stags Leap Petite Syrah.
There are some really affordable red wines... the ones I like are Merlot, kind of smooth and dry, Cabernet, very dry and woody, and Shiraz, another dry and kind of smooth.. they all go very well with red meat... I'm not a sweet wine drinker, but there aren't very many reds that are sweet...
Personally my favorites are Shiraz, Syrah, Merlot, Bordeaux. (yes they do have sweet and dry ones.

I think my favorite inexpensive wine is Yellowtail Shiraz (it has a yellow kangaroo on the bottle) Here is a picture and description from their website: http://www.yellowtailwineusa.com/wines/s...
The colour of wine is not determined by the juice of the grape, which is almost always clear, but rather by the presence or absence of the grape skin during fermentation.[43] Grapes with coloured juice, for example alicante bouchet, are known as teinturier. Red wine is made from red (or black) grapes, but its red colour is bestowed by a process called maceration, whereby the skin is left in contact with the juice during fermentation. White wine can be made from any colour of grape as the skin is separated from the juice during fermentation.

My favorite is Markham Merlot
Welcome to the wonderful world of red wine. You will have fun.
When I first started drinking red wines I liked the lighter, fruity ones best. Start with some pinot noir from Napa or Oregon or Washington. Or some grenache from Australia. You can chill them slightly in the fridge (about half an hour) to make them a little more palatable for the beginner (soon you will find this unnecessary).
Many of the grocery store australian reds are slightly sweet. This can be good when you first start with red wine- soon you will find that it is no longer acceptable (at least I did).
