I need help in getting some Absinthe for a birthday...?!
I have also discovered that it can make you hallucinate, or some other weird stuff. :-p
So for people who have actually tried it, what was it like? What kind did you get?

Answers: My boyfriend has really hinted at wanting to try some Absinthe for his birthday (coming up in about a month). I have recently discovered, due to its contents, you cannot buy this drink at a US store, only online.

Let me tell you first the secondary effects of thujon are bogus. These are amazingly complex products that vary in the style of infusion and should be enjoyed for what they are and not for some mythical side effects. They are dry, very herbal and very complex. If you are just looking for side effects then save your money and buy some acid.
If you want a good one be prepared to spend a pretty penny. I'd recommend starting with Oxygenee or Deva. You can find them available all over the internet.
Anything you order online from overseas runs a risk of being seized by customs. It's a crapshoot and in my opinion not really worth the risk.
I drank absynthe in the Florida Keys with some people a few years ago. It's not very pleasant tasting, even when poured through sugar. It produces a very mild pleasant feeling. You'd have to consume a LOT if you're planning on hallucinating. Kind of similar to being drunk and stoned at the same time.

Don't belive the hype and myths. Absinthe will not make you hallucinate at all, that is just a myth. Anyone who has actually tried it can tell you that. (I have found that almost all of the people who go on about it making you hallucinate have never even tried it) It will just get you drunk like any other liquor. Go to Feeverte.net and they have a list of recommended retailers. Don't worry about customs. I have ordered from several places and have never had a problem.
Try pernod. Its taste the same and its legal. And great for a toothache.
Absinthe is not illegal in the US, nor does it make you hallucinate.
