What kind of Wine do I bring to a Fall evening get-together?!
Answers: Our family just moved to a new neighborhood and we have been invited to a Fall get-together and asked to bring a bottle of wine to "taste and share". We like wine but really aren't wine drinkers. Help me out with what won't make us look like the clampetts and isn't Boone's Farm!! Something that would be appropriate for the season and taste fantastic. I am assuming this is an outdoor casual event to relax and enjoy. Thank you in advance for any help!
Go with a good white wine probably..maybe something with a hint of fruitiness. A good Pinot Grigio might be a good choice, they tend to be crisp, and some have hints of apple, which is great in the fall. If its for tasting and sharing, you might want to spend a little more or get something a little more obscure than your standard store brands.
But if you dont want to spend more than 10 bucks, you can go for a Twin Fin Pinot Grigio (which is exquisite, despite the twist-off cap) or Yellow Tail Pinot Grigio.
If you want to go with a red, go with a Pinot Noir, which also tend to be light and not overpowering. Castle Rock Pinot Noir is one of my favs, and you can get a bottle for less than $20. This wine also has the ability to go with just about any food.
Whatever you do, dont bring anything heavy like a Cabernet or Merlot. Also, you really need to know your wines to pick out a good one.
Fall says red to me. If you can find it Meeker -Pink Elephant is very good. Probably around $20 for a bottle.
Shiraz is also yummy - Even an inexpensive bottle (Yellow tail) can be quite nice with the right company.
I'd recommend a nice Zinfandel. Pick up a bottle from Renwood or Rosenblum..such as:
Renwood 2004 Old Vine Zinfandel
The 2004 Old Vine Zinfandel is medium ruby in color. The bouquet consists of brown sugar, caramel, sage, eucalyptus, and bursting with dark berry fruit. The flavor is a sumptuous blend of warm blackberries on the entry, with a hint of dried fruit, finishing with sweet fleshy tannins.($19.49)
