There are both red wines and white wines that can age well. Moszt of the wine that we see on the market today are made to drink right away. There are, however, wines that will get much better as they age. For red wines, wines with a good tannic structure will typically age better, as the tannins are a natural preservative. Examples of these are certain California Cabernets, Burgundies, and Barolos. For example, I was lucky enough to taste a 1967 Barolo recently, and it was delicious. There are also white wines that can age well. For example, German Rieslings, Chablis, and White Burgundies.
All wines taste better as they age in an unopened bottle. Opened bottles, however, turn to vinegar if left undrunk.
Red wine with Red meat/ beef etc. White Wines with Fish & seafood.
white wines are best within 5 years of bottling. Red wines improve over longer time spans.

Red wine ages for the better.
All white wines are bottled to be drank within 3-4 years, after that they start to turn into vinegar. With the exception of oak aged white wines such as Chardonnay and Savignon Blanc. All red wines aged in oak will get better over the years as long as they are stored properly.
Sometimes wine will get more expensive as it ages. It doesn't always work that way though.

As long as the wine is stored properly (lying down so the cork stays wet), an aged red wine is super yummy. Whites don't tend to age as well.
