Answers: dont drink but i would like to find a sweet wine...i mean sweet..
Why don't you try a dessert wine like a port or a sherry?
Dry Sack, Harvey's Bristol Cream, and Sandeman are all good and moderately priced.
You might also like a few European trends (Spain and otherwise)-- Red (sweet) vermouth on ice with a lemon or an orange slice is delicious. In Spain, they drink Calimocho which is Red Wine mixed with Coke on ice. It's also good with Sprite.
Finally, there are some excellent sparkling red wines (try a shiraz) which are served cold, tend to be a bit sweeter and "wetter" than champagne, and might be nice for you to try.

The classiest of all these is probably the port, if you're looking for something to drink while your friends are having dinner. Though it's a dessert wine, it's also an acceptable apertif. All the other options are a bit out of the ordinary for America/hard to come by (sparkling reds haven't caught on here yet, but you could help start the trend;). All are equally delicious! Enjoy!

p.s. White zinfandel is generally considered to be a pretty trashy option for wine drinkers. Like on the same level as Zima in a trailer park. And it's not a red wine. Then again, mixing coke with your wine is probably not the "classiest" thing to do either . . . :)
The is no Sweet red wine. The easiest wines for most new drinkers to handle are the white zinfandel and white merlot style. These are very sweet in the grand scheme of things, but to someone used to drinking sugary sodas they will seem "normal".
any type of ice wine would fit the bill

or you can go ask someone at the liqour store what the wines sweetness rating is

a rating of 5 would be at the top of the sweetness scale
Rose Regale. It's a delicious, sweet sparkling red wine. I'm serious, I won't drink reds usually because I think they taste just awful but I found Rose Regale very agreeable indeed. It's really really good with dark chocolate and raspberries (so it's perfect for a romantic evening!)
baby duck is a sweet wine mogen david is a popular choice (verry sweeet) if you ask at the counter the people will be pleased o help you make a choice that will suit your taste
Then go for a white zin or other blush wine
Lambrusco, its very good
For sweet red wine, go for Port.

Port is a fortified red wine. Originated in Western Europe, it was made with partially fermented red wine, fortified with Brandy. As a result, you end up with a sweet (due to partially fermentation and leaving a bunch of sugar behind) and high alcohol (up to 15-18%) red wine. It is made primarily in Portugal, hence Port wine, but many wineries around the world, including California, have been making sweet dessert/Port wines.

You can go for Port of various quality and various price range, from $10 to more than $100 per bottle (ie vintage port). Good names including Taylor, Sandeman, Cockburns, Fonseca. As for California, think of V. Sattui, Heitz, Freemark Abbey, all ranging about $25-35 per bottle.

As for white ice, I agree that Ice Wine is the sweetest. Ice wine from Canada are fabulous and reasonably priced, from $20/half to $70/half. Sauturne from France also is sweet, as well as some Californian dessert wine (Dolce $60/half is most well known). Many of these are non-fortified, ie they are sweet and low alcoholic, because these wines are grown until the weather gets cold, so the grapes tend to shrivel up, leaving high sugar content in the leftover grape and the juice from it.
Yeah I agree Lambrusco! Also I would suggest Sangria it has excellent flavor, very fruity.
