What is rye whiskey? Who makes it?!

Question: whiskey containing at least 50% rye (as in the grain). it became popular in the united states during prohibition, when people were distilling liquors from anything that was readily available.
i may be mistaken, but i believe it's mainly a north american concoction.
jim beam and wild turkey are the only two i've ever sampled....
it's a rather harsh, dry whiskey, and i would not recommend it as a "beginner" whiskey.

Rye whiskey is made from the grain of rye...same as rye bread. The irish are known for this.

rye whiskey is made by canadians and is one of the best mixing /sipping whiskys that you can buy

Jim Beam is the only one I have found that makes a rye (comes with a yellow label), but there must be more out there
