I have a recipe that call for madeira, I don't have any, but I have just about every other kind of alcohol.!

Question: What can I substitute?

Answers: What can I substitute?

Madiera is weird - it's not really like anything else. I agree with the first poster that sherry is probably as close as you'll get, but it's really not the same. If Madiera is the key ingredient (e.g.: something in Madiera wine sauce) then I'd go out and get a bottle of Madiera. If it's just a minor ingredient, I'd toss in some sherry instead.

Really most red wines will do.... If you have a sweet red, I would use that.
Oh! If you have sherry, you could use that too!

Closest would be port. If you have no port, then sherry.

Dry Sherry would be a sub. Don't use Cream Sherry it is to sweet.

Madeira is wonderful stuff. Sauce Perigourdine was considered for many years to be the ultimate French sause

just use some vodka it goes good with everything

madeira is sweet fortified wine, so is sherry, or port. these are your best bets for substitutions.
